Hart lost weight in December while he looked for answers to a medical condition he had been dealing with “for a while.” Over the course of 19 days, from December 10 to December 28, Hart made just one start due to sickness and the Christmas break.
The 25-year-old politely refused to discuss the illness’s specifics.
In early November, Hart had to cope with a back injury and food sickness; in December, he experienced an illness that remained unidentified.

“It has been going on for a while,” Hart said to NBC Sports Philadelphia on Dec. 16. “I used to never get sick and now I think I’ve been sick three times in the last month, so something is going on. It’s good that we got to the bottom of it and figured it out. Now I can take the right steps to treat it and fix it and feel better going forward.”
The goalie is completing his senior year of a three-year, $11.937 million contract and will be a restricted free agent after this season.
After giving up five goals on 15 shots in a defeat to Colorado on Saturday, Hart, 25, was yanked after one of his worst starts in an otherwise excellent season. In his sixth NHL season, which is the last of a three-year deal for $11.9 million, he is 12-9-3.

Hart, who was born in Sherwood Park, Alberta, a small town west of Edmonton, will be a restricted free agent come summertime.
In one of their last games before the All-Star break, the Flyers, who have been one of the league’s most pleasant surprises and own a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference, face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night.
On Tuesday night, Cal Petersen was brought up from the team’s AHL Lehigh Valley club to provide backup for Ersson.
